WHAT IS OPEN PLAY? Open play, also known as walk-on is what you're going to be participating in if you're not in a private group or on a competitive team. We divide all our open play games by ability level and equipment type.
The Badlandz caters to the walk on player, ensuring you of not only the best paintball experience, but the best value for your entertainment dollar. For $25.00 you can barely go to the movies these days. At The Badlandz $25.00 will get you an entire day at the largest most diverse paintball facility the Midwest has to offer.
|
What can be better than over 400 acres of forts, creeks, bluffs, bridges, open fields, ravines and giant old oak trees to hyperball, airball & x-ball – you want it The Badlandz has it. For more than 15 years The Badlandz has been the Midwest leader in paintball, some of our claims to fame are:
GAME TURN
We have kept our loyal customer base do in part to the fact that our experienced employees keep the games flowing. You won’t be stuck in the parking lot waiting for a ref to get a game going. It’s a fact that you will play more games in an average day than at any other facility. |
BRING YOUR OWN PAINT
While other fields force you to purchase their paintballs, for as much as $100.00 a case, we let you bring your own. Not that you need to, we have multiple brands beginning as low as $45.00 a box of 2000 rounds. If you pick one of our combination admission packages you will actually cut that price in half without lowering the quality of the ball.
LEVEL PLAYING FIELD
No we didn’t bulldoze the whole place. We have multiple games going out for multiple skill levels. First timers up to the Midwest’s most winning pro team. The difference between us and the other fields is…we separate them. If you don’t have fun you won’t come back. If you don’t come back we go broke; Pretty simple, but we pay close attention to this very basic philosophy.
RULES & SAFETY
Badlandz has led the way in both for years. We were the first field in the Midwest with netted fields to allow for spectator comfort and safe zones. We were one of the very first fields anywhere to realize that the extreme rates of fire that some guns could attain were driving away droves so we implemented a “rate of Fire’ cap, more than four years ago!

MAXIMUM CAPACITY LIMITS FOR FIELDS
A few years ago we came up with a system for determining how many people could effectively play on any given field. So every field we have a max capacity, now when the ref starts the game you can rest assured you'll have a bunker to get to so you can battle.
RATE OF FIRE
Our 2010 rate of fire is 10.5 balls per second. Most other fields don’t have a R. O. F. cap and even if they do they have no way to actually check it, call and ask them, it makes a huge difference in keeping the fun in the game.
We can go on and on about all the firsts Badlandz has achieved but its just talk. Know that we have never stopped our progress and the quest to bring you the greatest possible paintball experience for the lowest possible cost... (see packages to right)
Woodsball Games, not only do we break them down by ability levels & size, but we give you varied game types. |
ELIMINATION GAMES
Most players prefer this format so it’s what we most often play. It’s as simple as it sounds; eliminate all of our opponents before they eliminate all of you. One ball break anywhere on you or your equipment and you’re out.
CAPTURE THE FLAG
Each team starts in their respective “flag base” the referee will signal the start of the game then it’s the teams job to either quickly or slowly advance towards their opponents base. You win the game once you’ve captured your opponent’s flag & returned it back to your flag base. You can walk it back after eliminating all your opponents or sneak it out of their base, run it back leaving the defenders wondering what happened.
ATTACK & DEFEND
Generally speaking we will utilize one of our forts or possibly a natural type of barricade that will protect a small amount of participants. They get to start inside the structure then a larger force starts outside and tries to get in. The only problem is the players on the outside don’t have as many obstacles to hide behind for protection. Never predictable, in fact a little chaotic at times attack & defend is a blast.
THE ALIEN GAME
A small force vs. a much larger one. The twist comes in when a player on the small force marks a player on the larger. If you’re on the larger team and get shot you must immediately switch sides, you have been “assimilated”. Its time to do battle with your former teammates. If you’re an “alien” the smaller force (at the start) and you get marked you’re out for the rest of the game. |

PROTECT THE PRESIDENT
One player on the team has to wear an orange vest and try to stay alive with the help from his security guards. The other teams job. . .? You guessed it, blast the dude in the vest & your team wins Do you have a spy amongst you? Watch your back while you go after the “man”.
WALK-ON
The Badlandz offers 4 levels of walk-on on games for our customers, unlike many other fields that throw everyone together regardless of skill level. While we pride ourselves on the large amount of very talented players we have, we also learned years ago that they needed to be separated from the newer less experienced crowd. So when you show up to play, you can rest assured that we've got your back. It is our goal to make sure you have fun and want to come back again and again.
All you'll need to do is let our game coordinator know where you feel most comfortable and thats the game you'll play in. Our referees will keep a close eye on the action, moving people up levels if we feel they are "sandbagging". Conversely if we see that you're struggling we will suggest a level lower so you can better enjoy your day. But whatever your choice, you can rest assured that we do watch and we do care, that's why we've been here doing this for so long.
WALK-ON I (BEGINNER)
This is considered the first stop on your climb up the ladder. Most people in Walk-On I rent their equipment and are really looking to get some introductory knowledge. So if you've never played paintball before, this is where you want to be and probably where you will stay for your first 5 or 6 outings. Unlike many other sports you can expect to nearly double your ability each time you play, for the first 3 to 4 times. Then its up to Walk-On II for you. For players that provide their own equipment Walk-On I is held to 10.5 B.P.S. and semi auto only.
WALK-ON II (STANDARD GAME)
Many of our regulars choose to play here and keep the games at a moderate tempo. While they can be and generally are skilled they are also here to have a good time just like you. Consider this a moderately competitive game and one that we will only move you out of if we feel that you're becoming overbearing on others. Like Walk-On I, Walk-On II has a 10.5 B.P.S. cap and is semi auto only. So while electronic guns are welcome they are also controlled.
WALK-ON III (ADVANCED)
For the core player, this is where you'll find most of the regulars. We routinely ask the top half of the intermediate to break off and jump in. Woodsball and hyperball all day with people that you know love this game and know how to play. If you have an electric gun and want to use it to its fullest potential we open it up here a bit to (1 shot semi auto then anything goes up to 12.5 bps.)
